Mary Hicks, M.Ed.
Mary Hicks has been our executive director/head of school for the past four years, leading it through its expansion to include both lower and upper elementary programs, and through its successful transition to an independent non-profit school. Mary balances a strong sense of professionalism with warmth and respect for the guides, staff, students and families that make up our school community. Mary has served the school for over 15 years, working in a variety of capacities, ranging from primary guide to interim director, business manager, and now her current role as head of school. This broad experience lets her support our guides and staff so that they excel in their jobs, and in turn our students receive an outstanding education in a supportive, nurturing environment.
Mary received her AMI certification as a primary guide from the Montessori Institute Northwest (MNW) in 1995. She also holds a BA in anthropology from the University of California - Santa Barbara and a M. Ed. from Loyola University Maryland.
When Mary is not leading an Earth Day Parade at our school, meeting with the school board or giving a tour for prospective families, she may be found in a far-flung region of the world — for example, taking in the view of Mt. Everest from 18,600 feet.
